I didn't watch the Oscars?

I really have nothing to say about the Oscars. I didn't watch them and I really don't care. I'd like to think I am above that type of thing... but I am not. It's just such a boring special. It's the same thing every year. So I did the unthinkable I turned off the T.V. and went for a walk. I went down the road and looked at the Harbour. The view may not be glamorous, I live near the container port, but I wouldn't have it any other way. There's just something about it that gets me exited. Maybe it's because I grew up in a town that had recreational harbour. The harbour in my home town is really nice. Its just that when I was a kid I always tried to imagine how it must have been when it was a working harbour. There would have been ferries, coal boats and all sorts of interesting things. I guess that that is part of why I like it here. When I see the harbour, I see my childhood fantasies come to life before my eyes.

Need a coffee? Caffeine withdrawal?

I have been thinking of getting off the coffee. I'm not in a bad way over it, I just don't like that I need a caffeine fix before I can interact with anyone. The research is out there. Caffeine is a drug. In fact it is the most widely used mood-altering drug in the world. We just like it too much to admit that it has adverse effects on us.

Last week I ran out of coffee and couldn't get to a store for some of that irresistible nectar of life. After the first day my family was quite willing to go out and get some for me. Enough to last a long, long time.

How bad am I when I don't get my morning brew? A friend of mine routinely asks if I have had my coffee yet before breaking any bad news. Really, it's not like I need it. I could stop taking the stuff, if I wanted to. The first priority of the day for me is to have a drink. It just helps me to feel normal. Hmm... sounds familiar doesn't it? I can't place it though... Well all this coffee talk has got me shaking. I need a cup of Joe!

Auto Show

I was watching the North American International Auto Show when it was televised on the weekend. This is one of the oldest auto shows still going and is one of my personal favorites.

Some of the more impressive concept vehicles showcased included; Ford's Shelby GR1, General Motors' hydrogen powered Sequel, Volks Wagon's Ragster, Jeep's Gladiator, and Chrysler's Firepower. As for production vehicles the Dodge Charger has to be the coolest thing hitting the streets. Also very cool (and a big up to GM for pulling the environmental bandwagon with a pick-up) is the Chevrolet Silverado Hybrid.

As I was watching the the show on T.V. I was reminded of my youth. I was always into cars as was my father. He would take my brothers and me to car shows whenever he could. Other times we would spend the day wandering around the streets of Toronto. We would make our own car shows by spotting cool cars as we went about our daily missions.

Home sweet home

Home sweet home. I realized, when my flight began its decent to Halifax, how much I love livig here. I like Toronto, there's a lot to see and do, but, it could never be home to me. I like my new home. It took a trip away to realize that this is My Home!

A visit home

Well I know that I said that I would have more time to keep this up to date.... as you may have guessed my wife and I had the baby. He was born December 8th 2004. Oh boy this is a lot of work! I really shouldn't complain though; I am reminded of how good I have it every time I visit other people I know with children. They tell me how quiet the boy is. This is fun, being a Dad... I'm glad I am staying home to do this...

We went home to show off the kid to everyone... had a chance to see my father and he was very happy to meet his grandson face to face. He has seen the boy on the webcam a few times, but it's not the same. I was very glad to see my father too. It's funny, now we live farther apart than ever before and yet we are closer than we have ever been. It's a good feeling being close to my dad. To see him with his grandson was something special. My Nana was there as well as my Uncle and his wife and their kids.
